I run Mat Black Web Design, a small London studio building bright, bespoke websites for small businesses across the UK and internationally.
Hi there, I'm Mat — founder of MBWD and the person whose name is over the door. We're a small studio, and that's deliberate: no account managers, no queue between you and the people actually designing and building your site. When you want something changed, you email us and it gets done, not passed along.
We've been building websites for over 20 years, for everyone from distilleries to electricians to local restaurants. The common thread isn't an industry — it's small businesses that want a site that actually looks like them and actually brings in work.
Two things matter to us on every project. First, it should look genuinely good — warm, clear, a bit characterful, not another grey template. Second, it should get found: built properly so it ranks in Google and shows up when AI assistants field local recommendations. A beautiful site nobody finds is a hobby, not a tool.
